Develop a functional mechanical "spider" with 6-8 legs, weigh <= than 20 pounds, 1 foot or more of clearance between ground and body, storage space of 8"x8"x8" within body for additional sensors, electronics, and associated hardware, wander autonomously within a GPS grid at .5 meters per second (1.8 KPH), and detect and avoid obstacles.
