Validating Medical Devices

Team 21027 is researching, designing and building a setup to validate vascular medical devices, such as catheters. They'll use a pump to create flow through anatomical models that simulate vascular tissue. They can test how the device reacts  to phenomena like hypertension, thrombosis and occlusions.

"I started as a biomedical engineering major, but switched to mechanical engineering just to have more opportunity in the work field after graduation," said team member Alejandra Loreto. "It was definitely a project where I could apply my mechanical engineering skills, but also learn about a medical application."
